Crochet Hat with Rose, Pattern

This is an easy crochet rose pattern. I've given it a little definition with a contrasting line of single crochet in a contrasting colour. It is attached to a simple 20's style cloche hat, where I have used the contrasting line of stitching on the edge. The pattern can be worked with a softer yarn and no edging for a completely different effect. The most important thing is to do samples to be able to judge finished size.

I use the British names for the stitches. Conversions are found at

I crocheted it with a linen like yarn (14 Wraps per Inch) and a 6mm "J" size hook. It fits my head which is quite small at 21.5 inches. A thicker yarn and larger hook would make a larger hat.

Detail for Making Crochet Rose

Rose

Work 34ch. Join into a circle with ss into first ch.

2ch, dc to end of row, ss into 2nd for first 2ch.
Repeat Row 5 more times. Change to contrasting colour and work one more row. Fasten Off.

Work one row of dc onto the original chain in contrasting colour, starting with 2ch, dc to end. Fasten off.

You now have a short tube. Sew a line of running stitch (using double yarn) around the middle of the tube between the contrasting lines, until it meets. Pull the yarn tight, to form rose.

To Make Up

Turn the hat right way out, fold brim of hat up and stitch rose in place through double thickness.
