Snowflakes are very limp, without a stiffener. My favourite is the the old fashioned sugar & water mixture. This makes the crochet snow flake rock hard and gives it a slightly translucent white almost sparkly apperance. It is a little sticky to work with but I've explained the procedure on the page for crochet stiffeners. Once you've got it down it not a big deal. A lot of the finished shape of the crochet snowflake is created by the way you mold with your fingers and pin it in place.

Crochet Snowflake #5

Work 8ch. Join into a circle with ss into first ch.

1st. Round

5ch, 1dtr, * 2ch, 1 dtr Repeat from * 6 times, 2ch, ss into 3rd ch of first 5 ch

2nd. Round

3ch, 2dtr *3ch, 3dtr Repeat from * 7 times, 3ch, ss into 3rd ch of first 3ch

3rd. Round

8ch, * 1dtr into 1st ch, 5ch, 1dtr into first dtr, Repeat from * 7 times 5ch, ss into 3rd ch of first 8ch

4th. Round

3ch, 2dtr, 5ch, ss into 2nd dtr, 2dtr, 3ch, 1dc into loop. *3ch, 3dtr, ss into 3rd dtr, 2dtr, 3ch, 1dc into loop. Repeat from * 7 times. 3ch, ss into 3rd ch of first 3ch. Cut cotton, slip end through and darn ends invisibly into work.
