Snowflakes are very limp, without a stiffener. My favourite is the the old fashioned sugar & water mixture. This makes the crochet snow flake rock hard and gives it a slightly translucent white almost sparkly apperance. It is a little sticky to work with but I've explained the procedure on the page for crochet stiffeners. Once you've got it down it not a big deal. A lot of the finished shape of the crochet snowflake is created by the way you mold with your fingers and pin it in place.

Crochet Snowflake 4

Work 8ch. Join into a circle with ss into first ch.

1st. Round

6ch *2tr into circle, 3ch, 1tr into circle, 3ch. Repeat from * 4 more times. 2tr, 3ch, ss into 3rd ch of first 6ch.

2nd. Round

7ch *2tr into tr in first row, 4ch, 1dc into single tr from first row, 4ch. Repeat from * 4 more times. 2tr, 4ch, ss into 3rd ch of first 7ch.

3rd. Round

8ch *2tr into tr in previous row, 5ch, 1dc into single dc from previous row, 5ch. Repeat from * 4 more times. 2tr, 5ch, ss into 3rd ch of first 8ch.

4th. Round

10ch *2tr into tr in previous row, 7ch, 1dc into single dc from previous row, 7ch. Repeat from * 4 more times. 2tr, 7ch, ss into 3rd ch of first 10ch.

5th. Round

12ch *2tr into tr in previous row, 9ch, 1dc into single dc from previous row, 9ch. Repeat from * 4 more times. 2tr, 9ch, ss into 3rd ch of first 12ch.

6th. Round

14ch *2tr into tr in previous row, 9ch, ss into 2nd ch of 9ch, 6ch, ss into 2nd ch of 9ch, 6ch, ss into 2nd ch of 9ch, 1ch, ss into 2nd tr. 12ch, 1dc into single dc from previous row, 9ch, ss into 2nd ch of 9ch, 6ch, ss into 2nd ch of 9ch, 6ch, ss into 2nd ch of 9ch, 1ch, ss into tr. Cut cotton, slip end through and darn ends invisibly into work.
