Crochet Snowflakes... Pattern #22

Crochet Snowflake #22 is a large snowflake, 6 3/4 inches in diameter.

Snowflakes are very limp, without a stiffener. My favourite is the the old fashioned sugar & water mixture. This makes the crochet snow flake rock hard and gives it a slightly translucent white almost sparkly apperance. It is a little sticky to work with but I've explained the procedure on the page for crochet stiffeners. Once you've got it down it not a big deal. A lot of the finished shape of the crochet snowflake is created by the way you mold with your fingers and pin it in place.

Crochet Snowflake #22

Work, 8ch. Join into a circle with ss into first ch.

1st. Round

2ch, 17dc, ss into second of first 2ch.

2nd. Round

4ch, 1dtr into same dc, *5ch, miss two dc, (1dtr, 1ch, 1dtr) into 3rd dc, Repeat from * 5 times, 5ch, ss into 3rd of first 4ch.

3rd. Round

4ch, 1dtr into first small loop, *(4ch, 1tr, 4ch) into large loop, (1dtr, 1ch, 1dtr) into small loop, Repeat from * 4 more times, (4ch, 1tr, 4ch) into large loop, ss into 3rd of first 4ch.

4th. Round

4ch, 1dtr into first small loop, *(4ch, 1dc just before tr, 1dc just after tr, 4ch), (1dtr, 1ch, 1dtr) into small loop, Repeat from * 4 more times, 4ch, 1dc just before tr, 1dc just after tr, 4ch, ss into 3rd of first 4ch.

5th. Round

4ch, 1dtr into first small loop, *(9ch, 1dc into dc, 1dc into dc, 9ch), (1dtr, 1ch, 1dtr) into small loop, Repeat from * 4 more times 9ch, 1dc into dc, 1dc into dc, 9ch, ss into 3rd of first 4ch.

6th. Round

4ch, 1dtr into first small loop, *{7ch, 1(7yrh) into dc, 7ch, 1(7yrh) into dc, 7ch}, (1dtr, 1ch, 1dtr) into small loop, Repeat from * 4 more times, 7ch, 1(7yrh) into dc, 7ch, 1(7yrh) into dc, 7ch, ss into 3rd of first 4ch.

7th. Round

6ch, ss into 4th ch to form picot, 1dc into small loop, *{7dc into next loop, (3dc, 1tr, 1dtr, ---3ch, ss into 1st of 3ch---called picot, 1dtr, 1tr, 3dc) into next loop, 7dc into next loop}, (1dc, 1 picot, 1dc) into small loop, Repeat from * 4 more times, 7dc next loop, (3dc, 1tr, 1dtr, 1 picot, 1dtr, 1tr, 3dc) into next loop, ss into 2nd of first 6ch.

Cut cotton, slip end through and darn ends invisibly into work.
