Snowflakes are very limp, without a stiffener. My favourite is the the old fashioned sugar & water mixture. This makes the crochet snow flake rock hard and gives it a slightly translucent white almost sparkly apperance. It is a little sticky to work with but I've explained the procedure on the page for crochet stiffeners. Once you've got it down it not a big deal. A lot of the finished shape of the crochet snowflake is created by the way you mold with your fingers and pin it in place.

Crochet Snowflake 2

Work, 10ch. Join into a circle with ss into first ch.

1st. Round

4ch, *5ch, 1dtr into circle. Repeat from * 7 times 5ch, ss into the 4th ch of the original 4ch

2nd. Round

15ch, ss into 10th chain, 16ch, ss into same 10th chain, 5ch,

ss into same 10th chain, 10ch, ss into ch from the 1st row where you started. 1dc into loop, 16ch, 2dc into loop, 16ch, 1dc, ss into triple from first row.

*10ch, ss into 10th chain, 16ch, ss into same 10th chain, 5ch, ss into same 10th chain, 10ch, ss into dtr from the 1st row. Repeat from * 7 times. Cut cotton, slip end through and darn ends invisibly into work.
