Christmas Tree Ornaments

Beaded Christmas Pendant

This ornament was fun, I was thinking about some of the Church Roof lines that you see in old Russian or Middle Eastern Architecture. I was looking for beads that were metallic or pearly finishes in dark reds or copper/bronze colors.

This is my first experiment with sewing fun foam and it is even easier and more fun than I thought it would be. It is a great material for Christmas craft projects. It is easy to use, cut, sew and is rigid enough to hold its shape.

Craft Supplies:

Draw Pattern Pieces

Start with the shape. I drew half a shape on a piece of graph paper and folded it to finish the shape. As you can see from the picture, I tried a couple of things before I was satisfied with the shape an was ready to cut.

If you wish you can copy the shape by counting the squares and sketching the lines in the same place. You can shrink or enlarge the ornament to suite your taste. I also drew some lines that I wished to use for embroidery.

Cut Fun Foam Pieces

I used my paper pattern to trace the image on the fun foam. I chose to make each side a different color. Then I cut the pieces out.

Mark Pieces for Stitching

I used a wooden skewer to punch the holes I needed to be able to place the embroidery.

Embroider & Bead Pieces

I used brightly colored tapestry wool to embroider the pattern, and added a bead by coming up through the back, through the bead and then back down the same hole.

I repeated the embroidery on both sides in different contrasting colors.

New Version

I then chose a color of tapestry wool that would contrast with both sides and stitched the two sides together.

Finished Ornament

I added a piece of tapestry wool to hang the ornament from with a bead on it.

Finished Ornament

I decided to dress up the ornament and put some larger beads on it.

I like to be able to let the design grow and change. Sometimes I decide that the changes are too big and I save the ideas for another project.
