It is tricky to copy images on to felt, so I find the easiest way to transfer the image is by tracing it onto tissue paper and I embroider right through the tissue paper. I use the kind they wrap clothes in when you buy them in a fancy store.
I pin the tissue paper pattern to a generous size piece of felt, in this case royal blue, and embroider the images right throuh the tissue paper.
The colours for this project are flexible. You can either use approximatly the same as I have in the picture or come up with a colour scheme that suits your tree.
To choose the colours for the embroidery floss, I lay a selection of embroidery threads on another piece of the main felt colour to see what the floss colours look like together on the back ground felt colour that they will be seen on.
Lay the embroidered front on the felt you wish to use for the back layer while the tissue paper is still in place. Use a running stitch with a short stitch length to stitch the layers together along the inside line on the drawing.
Cut along the middle line on the drawing. Now is the time that you can pick out the tissue paper.
